Around Us

In the Heart of Portugal

We are in Molelos, a parish of the municipality of Tondela, located in a vast plateau west of the Serra do Caramulo, known to exist since 1515.

From here, the Heart of Portugal, you can enjoy a range of activities at your own leisure or in an organised group.

Here are some activities that you can enjoy around us.

Pottery Workshop

Molelos is one of the last places in Portugal where pottery is still made using the traditional black clay firing method. Once a major production center, it had around 100 potteries in the last century - now only 5 remain.

Pre-book a workshop for you/your family/your group. Weather allowing and if your group is big enough the workshop may take place in Catrinandes land! Every May, local potters gather to revive the ancient Soenga firing technique, a ground-based reduction process - have a look here. In 2025 it is expected this event will take place on the weekend of 17 - 18 May!

Wild Flora Walks & Foraging

Join a guided walk with our local herbalist, Pamela Sousa, founder of Pharmacia das Ervas, for an unforgettable journey into the world of wild plants. As you explore, you'll learn to identify native flora, uncover their stories, and discover their medicinal, culinary, and practical uses.

Pre-book a workshop for yourself, your family, or your group. For larger groups, the walk can even take place on Catrinandes' land!

A unique opportunity to connect with nature in a deeper way - don’t miss it!

Cycling or Walking in Ecopista do Dão

From an ending - the closure in 1988 of the railways in the Dão region - a new beginning emerged with the creation of a scenic trail alongside the Dão River.

This gentle path offers a safe and enjoyable experience for walking or cycling, free from steep slopes!

The nearest access point from Catrinandes is the historic Tondela train station. Have a look here!

Witness the Tradition Linen Process

The artisanal production of linen is a cultural heritage passed down through generations in Tondela, especially in the mountain villages.

AMA - Association of Women Farmers of Castelões still carries out the entire process, from sowing to weaving on the loom.

Have a look here at these extraordinary inspiring women leaders and we can arrange a visit with them!
